Co-sponsored by the National Center and the Japanese American National Museum, the National Diversity Education Program works with educators to expand diversity education for middle school youth. Applicants were chosen from across five U.S. States (Arkansas, California, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas) to participate in a year-long program to develop curricular materials, panel discussions, forums, and workshops that explore the best models of diversity education.
¡Hola! Soy Olivia "Evey" Chapa

Hi! My name is Olivia "Evey" Chapa, and I am very excited to be able to communicate with anyone and everyone who is as adamant and passionate about the importance of cultural diversity as I am. I am ninth generation Texan, which means the political border-- changed by war--moved my family into the U.S., providing us with a unique perspective. Nonetheless, there is no escaping the historical struggle of the people who are considered minority, but have made a viable and productive contribution to our country. I have been inside and outside the challenges we faced for justice and equality, and through it all, I always came back to the essence of preserving any society, education.

I believe that exposure to diversity in our world is best expressed by what "we" as a people create in all areas of life and education. By exposure I mean a willingness to challange not just our youth, but ourselves with diverse thought in order to better understand. I'm very excited to learn from others who work to understand diversity and the role it plays in educating our youth, and look forward to becoming a part of a community of educators concerned with diversity and
