The Minority Education Achievement Gap:
A Provocative Look

  • Professor Abigail Thernstrom, Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute in New York, vice-chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and co-author of No Excuses: Closing the Racial Gap in Learning.

  • Professor Richard Rothstein, former national education columnist for the New York Times, senior correspondent of The American Prospect, and author of numerous books on charter schools, student achievement, public vs. private schools, and the black-white achievement gap.

  • Special Guest Shawn ArĂ©valo McCollough, well-known education practitioner, who was recently recognized in Washington, DC by US Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings as a "Warrior for our Kids".

  • Moderated by Larry Mantle, host of AirTalk on NPR's KPCC.

    Entire Seminar and Q & A to be broadcast the following week on KPCC's Airtalk (10-12AM every morning) on 89.3 KPCC-FM. Reception following Seminar.
